Understanding Lynbrook Baptist Church

Committed to God's Word
We believe the Bible is worthy of our complete confidence, that God speaks to the church in it, and that we may turn to its pages for all we need for life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3)

Committed to One Another
We believe Biblical Christianity is relational. When we enter into a life of fellowship with God (a vertical relationship) we also automatically become truly related to one another (horizontal relationships). This means the church exists as a context for sharing and caring for one another, and as a place for growing together. (Hebrews 10:23,24)

Excited About Worship
We believe it is not enough that we meet together, and grow together. We must give God the praise and adoration of our hearts he has won. We gladly express our love for Him in word and song because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

Anxious to Share With Others
We believe that the "gospel" is good news that all men need to hear in order to be right with God. Our commitment is to reach out in love with this message of deliverance so that all may know the abundant life which God freely gives to those who will embrace His Son. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

History of LBC

On July 29, 1914, 29 people met at Mechanics Hall in Lynbrook to begin the Baptist Church of Lynbrook. In 1918, the present location of 225 Earle Ave. was obtained. Originally the church building stood in Valley Stream, but was disassembled and relocated to the present site. Over time the Church has witnessed and survived through World War I, World War II, the stock market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, the Bi-Centennial, and more.

Important changes occurred during the 1940's and 1950's in the life of the Church. Under the ministry of George Washburn, a new evangelistic emphasis began, and the spiritual state of the church was transformed. During this same era, a Sunday School building was added, the Church sanctuary was enlarged, and office space added. It was also at this time that the Church became affiliated with the Conservative Baptist Association of America.

Today's congregation consists of people from many racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds, united by their love for Jesus Christ and their desire to serve Him. The vision of Lynbrook Baptist in the 90's and beyond reaches upward, inward, and outward. We reach up to God with our praise and for His renewal in our lives. We turn inward, seeking to minister to one another in genuine affection. We reach outward to others who need to hear the good news of the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.
